After many years on the leading edge of nutrition. One of the goals of Life Balances Int'l has been to demonstrate that the proper concentration of nutrients is the key to metabolic efficiency. Another issue is solubility, and still another is osomolarity. Simply swallowing vitamins and minerals doesn't work. Balance means the right amount of sugar to get the nutrients through absorptive areas of the small intestines, the proper electrolyte mix to support the full complex of chemical reactions, and the right pH balance, so that the minerals can be absorbed.
Adolescent hyperactivityA good example of what can be achieved will be seen in the
effect of vitamins and properly balanced electrolytes on milk allergies and hyperactivity. No one in the country has brought greater public attention to the milk allergy problem than Dr. Smith MD, who has dealt with perhaps 8,000 hyperactive kids referred to him by schools over a ten-year period.
When it comes to adolescent hyperactivity, psychologists usually point the finger at parents. Most medical doctors, on the other hand, simply prescribe a drug, a methamophetainine, which is speed. At first Dr. Smith was impressed with the results of these drugs. In almost all cases stimulants such as Dexedrine and Ritalin seemed to have a calming effect The child who could not sit through school was magically imbued with "self-control" overnight.
Calcium and magnesium deficiencies.Though a series of observations and discoveries, Dr. Smith realized that this calming effect of a stimulant was actually a telltale sign of a metabolic imbalance. He had noticed that many of these kids showed allergic responses, with ear infections, extreme ticklishness, constipation. circles under their eyes.
Virtually all of these "problem" kids, he noticed, were low in calcium and magnesium, even though they were consuming quarts of milk and milk products. It was obvious that there was a problem of absorption. More than anything else, it was this concern with the absorption problem that began to move him away from use of commonly-prescribed drugs for adolescent hyperactivity and toward dietary changes and the use of B-vitamins, which promote nutrient assimilation. Though initially he did not fully appreciate the biochemistry involved, he discovered early on that stopping milk made a gigantic difference.
Allergies and hyperactivityIn dealing with the recurring symptoms of hyperactivity, Dr. Smith became increasingly convinced that diet and good nutrition hold out far greater promise than conventional medicine has ever acknowledged. He noticed, for example, that most of these kids had mood swings for no apparent reason. As a rule the more excessive reactions occurred when the kids had eaten a sugary breakfast, then eaten nothing else for several hours. Blood sugar was low, and they showed all of the classical allergic responses. If the higher part of the brain (the neo cortex) is starved of blood sugar, the controlling function moves to the lower, or animal part. The undisciplined behavior of hyperactive kids is an all-too-frequent result of this imbalance. Regulating blood sugar, then, became a priority in Dr. Smith's nutritional approach.
It had been Dr. Smith's experience that 60 to 80 percent of hyperactive kids will respond to sound dietary changes. But the principles of good nutrition run deeper than most popular pronouncements on the subject. Over the years he has grown more and more skeptical of singular explanations and treatments, seeking instead a balanced approach to overall body chemistry.
New answers to milk allergiesOften, the results are surprising. Through the Life Balances Int'l program, for example, he has discovered that a proper balance of electrolytes will almost always eliminate milk allergies. In other words, removing milk and milk products from the diet is not the final solution to the problem. His own experience and the experiences of many others have shown that even people with extreme "milk allergies" actually can drink milk without an allergic response if their chemistry is re-balanced sufficiently to enable them to absorb calcium.
This story, together with Dr. Smith's own journey toward a more complete understanding of the milk allergy problem, will likely become a major theme in our presentation of the product. Millions of parents have heard Dr. Smith discuss these issues and should be extremely interested in his most recent findings.
TERRY PULSE, M.D., deceased
In the summer of 1989 internationally recognized AIDS researcher, Terry L. Pulse, M.D., conducted a systematic study of a unique nutritional supplementation program on a group of AIDS patients. The purpose was to determine if an intensive nutritional regimen-including a supplementation powder, fatty acid capsules, and stabilized Aloe Vera beverage-would help to support the patients' immune system and increase their ability to fight current and future infections. (See the summary of Dr. Pulse's study in the Journal for Advancement in Medicine, Winter issue, 1990.)
Nutritional therapySince that study, Dr. Pulse had become a familiar name in the networking community. Many of the things people are saying about his ground breaking work, however, are either incorrect or an invitation to trouble with the regulatory agencies. What can be stated for the record is that Dr. Pulse, along with other colleagues, demonstrated something that the nutritionally-minded community has been saying all along: good nutrition extends lives; and good nutrition improves the quality of life. Since that statement is echoed by the American Heart Association, the Cancer Society and now even the American Medical Association, it is permissible. Any other statements about Dr. Pulse's work should be strictly avoided.
On September 29, 1991, Dr. Pulse died, while in Europe. (He had been given a special chair at the University of Rome, in order to pursue innovative research.) Only two weeks earlier he had formally accepted the position of Director of Immune Deficiency Research for the Institute.
Nutrient transportOur product supports good clean osmolarity, which means efficient transport across the critical membranes (such as those through which nutrients in the small intestines pass in order to enter the circulatory system, the membranes of the blood-brain barrier, and the membranes of individual cells, etc.).
Electrolyte functionEvery living organism needs a transport mechanism, including
fluids and electrolytes. It also requires the trace minerals to provide proper instructions to the
organic chemistry. And efficient chemical reactions require that the components be available in specific proportions.
An electrolyte is any substance that dissociates into ions (electrically charged atoms or groups of atoms) when placed in solution, so that the solution becomes a conductor of electricity. Pure water does not conduct electricity because it lacks the necessary ions or charged particles. Sodium ions are positive and chloride ions are negative, for example. When electrolytes are available in the proper ratio the positive and negative ions will tend to equalize across the membranes of the body, and this equalization process promotes efficient nutrient transport. Acknowledged functions of electrolytes include: influencing the chemical development of the cell, maintaining proper fluid levels, maintaining the acid-base balance (ph), and numerous other functions as well.
Nutritional building blocksWithin the human body, electrolysis occurs continuously, whereby inorganic catalysts or building blocks produce changes in organic chemistry, breaking organic compounds apart or assembling new compounds. The process occurs in every organ, in the blood, and in every cell.
As a rule, modern medicine has concentrated on organic principles and forgotten the fundamental role of inorganic building blocks in conditioning or predetermining the organic response. Many specialists are surprised to discover that 25 percent of muscle tissue is inorganic mineral salts. The proportions of these salts within and outside the cells cannot fail to affect the performance of the muscle or its growth.
For example: if there's an excess of sodium in the system, it will draw fluids outside the cell. If there's a larger amount of potassium it will carry fluids into the cell. Such patterns are simply the effect of positive and negative electrical charges.
Excessive alkalinityIf there's a single large group we are addressing with this product, it
is the population affected by modern technologies for extending the shelf life of foods. Due to the common additions of nitrates and nitrites and other preservatives, the natural fermentation of foods is inhibited (they simply don't break down as readily because fermentation requires a degree of acidity). The result is that more than 75 percent of the population tends toward excessive alkalinity. Dr. Smith has noted, for example, that there was a time when the old Twinkles would break down. "Now they're almost bullet proof The American Undertakers Society has stated that even people don't decompose normally any more. The reason is the imbalance toward alkalinity."
Bacteria and pH BalanceWe've forgotten that normal nutrient absorption begins with
acid formation in the stomach leading to food digestion, with fermentation and nitrogen-bacteria cycles taking place. Lack of acidity means that insufficient nitrogen will be available to the phosphate chains and nitrogen chains supporting the immune system, or involved in building muscle protein. In fact, the necessary bacteria cannot survive in an alkaline state. What can survive are bacteria we do not want, such as streptococci.
Insufficient digestionHard clinical data will show that, due to our collective alkalinity,
we accumulate excess calcium and sodium that are not being properly assimilated. Elevated calcium and sodium levels begin to interfere with digestion in the intestines. So we begin to see more and more intestinal problems due to lack of absorption. The foods aren't breaking down.
Excess calcium and sodium can arise as by products of vegetation. In our consumption of vegetables and fruits we leave behind a lot of calcium ash due to incomplete assimilation. Such minerals in the foods would normally be broken down through fermentation, but alkalinity prevents these minerals from being used.
Unbalanced chemistryAs people get more alkaline, they also begin to develop an
imbalance of the phosphates and nitrates. A good example would be a typical salesman, under a lot of emotional stress, talking a lot, hyperventilating, and casting off base bicarbonate. If you look at that individual's MRI, you will usually find a deficiency in the language centers--based in the frontal lobe-affecting speech patterns and the ability to interpret language. This deficiency will appear as white spots on an MRI. Because he is too alkaline, preventing absorption of vital nutrients, his
circulation is out of balance and the bonding potential will favor the right side of the brain rather than the left.
Better assimilationWe are raising nutrient absorption with a concentration of solubility. Adding electrolytes to the protein powder is-not just adding sodium and potassium as some products would do, but adding all of the key components in a ratio that will promote efficient biochemical reactions. A large percentage of the diet and nutrition powders on the market tend to create too many acetones and ketones (that form ketosis and acidosis) because they're missing the added electrolytes that are necessary to kick out the excesses through the urine.
Nutritional imbalancesAnother significant target market for this product will be the middle-aged, overweight man or woman who wants to lose weight but has found that nothing seems to work over the long haul. The acid diet, carbohydrate diet, and grapefruit diet, like all the rest, will eventually produce imbalances. But generally, people do not understand that these imbalances are simply the result of the unbalanced chemistry of their total food intake.
Energy balanceA majority of protein drinks today are standardized, a fact that emphasizes the uniqueness of Life balances Int'l protein powder. And in this sense our drink is far ahead of the familiar competition. Our success in the "weight loss" field is predicated on balancing electrolytes to enhance bio availability and uptake into the cells, leaving people feeling better. The purpose of balancing body chemistry is to enable people to experience more energy and to reduce hunger while eating less.
Unlike familiar "electrolyte" drinks (high in sodium phosphate and sugar), adding electrolytes to the protein powder with balanced levels of potassium, bicarbonate, magnesium, sulfur, sodium and phosphorous, all in a highly pure form comparable to electrolyte solutions used in hospital IVS. Note that those who have excess potassium should avoid a low sodium diet. Users should be advised to check with their doctor before making significant dietary changes.
SUPERIOR NUTRITIONAL INTEGRITYProtein Isolates
Unlike many products on the market, this is not a milk and sugar powder. Our protein sources-soy protein isolate and whey protein isolate--are easily picked up and used by the body. Since low-grade allergic responses to milk protein are fairly common in this country and can cause an overweight condition or prevent effective weight loss, our product uses state-of-the-art proteins that are less likely to cause an allergic response, and far more likely to help boost metabolism and bum fat. (Note also the role of balanced electrolytes in dramatically reducing milk allergies, discussed below.)
Efficient biochemistryThe fine tuning of metabolism is another important benefit of our product. The key to understanding metabolism is enzyme kinetics and the efficiency of biochemical reactions, which are affected by the proper balance and availability of vitamins and minerals. Insufficient concentration of vitamins and minerals produces a low enzyme efficiency. The biochemistry of life can become so sluggish that it can only support minimal resistance to disease. Increase the availability of vitamin and minerals, and you increase the efficiency of enzyme reactions up to a peak performance level. Beyond this level, no further usefulness of nutritional supplementation is achieved.
Higher efficiencyThe point of peak biochemical performance is uniquely determined
and is affected by the genetic and biochemical requirements of each individual, by lifestyle, stress. aging, environment, exercise, drug use, and other factors. Most people think they are healthy, but may actually be functioning at only 70 to 80 percent of efficiency. This "gray zone" of efficiency means you are not sick with clearly defined symptoms. but you may find you don't have the .biochemical reserves to deal with stress or achieve peak performance.
Nutrient AbsorptionThe difference between the more frequently used ionic form of minerals and the chelated forms is that the chelates generally promote two to five times more absorption. In fact, absorption of minerals in our product is likely to be far greater than with other familiar nutrition and weight loss products. The value to the consumer is higher nutrient utilization in metabolic processes.
Fiber deficiencies90 percent of Americans don't eat enough fiber. We are seeking a balance between soluble and insoluble fibers. Soluble fibers will bind bio salts and lipids in the intestines and carry them out, lowering serum cholesterol and triglyceride levels, but they do not promote a sizable stool or a daily bowel movement Insoluble microcrystalline celluloid and rice bran etc, produce a large stool with guaranteed bowel movement, but are not as effective in binding lipids.
A better meal supplementOur product is envisioned as a meal supplement rather than a meal replacement Replacing meals with common milk shake-like drinks generally does not give people sufficient calories to prevent a drop in their metabolic rate. It can be demonstrated that people following diets of this sort lose both fat and lean body mass. Then, due to stress and reduced metabolism, they gain their weight back with a higher percentage of body fat.
A safe and sensible approachThe safest programs utilize at least 1,000 calories per
day, rich in vitamins and minerals. Ours is a supplement to go with other light foods, or to be used as a between-meal snack.
People who eat 5 or 6 times a day can manage their appetite more easily. Due in part to more stable blood sugar levels. When people become too hungry they lose control over their diet. The dieter should eat more frequently, but with small portions of food rich in vitamins and minerals like our unique powder drink.
